How can new technology create solutions for my community?

This is the question that is going to be addressed on September 24th during the opening day conference of Social Good Summit 2012. The venue of this special event is actually accessible from every corner around the globe.
All you need is internet connection and ideas.

Held from September 22-24, the Social Good Summit unites a dynamic community of global leaders to discuss a big idea: the power of innovative thinking and technology to solve current greatest challenges. The most innovative technologists, influential minds and passionate activists will come together with one shared goal: to unlock the potential of new media and technology to make the world a better place, and then to translate that potential into action.

The last day of the summit,on Monday September24th, communities from every corner around the globe will have the chance to connect to the world’s largest conversation. They are invited to discuss on how technology can grow communities and improve life for all of us as we move toward being a networked society.

How can you take action?

Join the Social Media Community by watching the Summit on YouTube and interact in real-time via social media with the hashtag #SGSglobal.

Alumni UNITAR and current students of UNITAR Social Media course (Innovative Collaboration for Development- ICfD) are also joining the conversation in the several ways.

1) Participants of the current session of the ICfD course will discuss #SGSglobal topics through the e-Learning platform and its forum. They belong to both developing and developed countries, so that they will provide multiple views.

2) They are also invited to contribute on #SGSglobal channels using the #icfdcourse hashtag in their posts. This will help course facilitators to tracktheir comments and ideas.

3) The ICfD Facebook page is going to be used to invite the allICfDAlumni community to debate.

Alessia Messuti has a background in communication with a special focus on the use of web radio for social inclusion and local development. She is a Training and Communication consultant in the Knowledge Systems Innovation Unit of UNITAR where she is involved in the design of training activities, the coordination of a course on social media for nonprofits as well as in research activities on innovative learning approaches.
